The sushi is amazing so is the selection. I suggest going early for dinner because it does fill up fast and once they are full the food takes longer to come out. But its definitely worth the wait. Waitstaff has always been great when we have visited.

In Charlotesville, VA, We enjoyed a Wonderful family dinner for 6 people. Handicapped accessible as I am on a walker. Delicious menu Offerings. You need time to study and decide. The sushi, sashimi, noodle dishes, rice bowls were wonderful With vegetarian and other offerings. The plates were works of art and made to perfection.It is a knock your socks off Restaurant. Service is attentive. Go, dine, enjoy.

This is my favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. Vibrant atmosphere for dinner. GREAT for VEGETARIANS. Mango & avocado roll is delicious. They make many of their dishes look like art. Have great flavor pairings and just the right amount of options.

Nice sushi place with nice server

BUSY BUSY place! My husband went there on a Friday night and did have to wait for 20 minutes. That was to be expected at a busy time. The sushi is FANTASTIC. We are huge sushi lovers and have traveled many places to try their sushi. We are new to this area and Now & Zen came recommended by friends. It's on the top of our list for sushi. They also had unfiltered Sake, which is often times difficult to find. The prices are as expected, nothing extreme. One star was taken off because our server forgot our drinks for 20 minutes. I understand he was busy, but he did forget our drinks until we reminded him. We will absolutely be going back.

Thier food is both beautiful and satisfying. The staff are polite and speedy and our server last night was delightful and hilarious to chat with. This restaurant is first on top five places to eat in C'ville. ❤️❤️❤️

Great place to enjoy Japanese food. A lot of options for sushi and sashimi (fresh but a little expensive).

Parking is awful but the food was well worth the crazy parking.

One of the better places for Asian food in Charlottesville, especially for Japanese. The food was delicious and came in nicely sized portions. However, I’ve given 4 stars because the actual restaurant is in a very small space so it feels overcrowded. We had to sit at the same table as 2 other groups and the waiter was occasionally hard to flag down.

Solid small cozy/date night type Japanese restaurant.

Pretty good sushi. Good specials. Bad atmosphere.If you like getting stuffed in a noisy room with little or no space between you and other patrons then this is the place to eat. If you and your dinner date hate talking or love talking above a din, then this is great too. In short, get take out.

I've never had anything but great food and service at Now & Zen. We have been there many times and this is our first take out. It's great as usual. We are enjoying salmon nigiri, spicy tuna roll, spicy tempura shrimp roll, chicken curry, and Gyudon, all delicious. If you haven't been here, your in for a treat. I want to eat this every day!

Great service and the sushi was amazing. The nigiri is the biggest pieces I think I’ve ever had in the states. Definitely recommend. The waiter was outstanding. I can’t wait until I can go back.

I think this place is pretty good actually, it would be 4 stars but I think their big rolls are not sized and priced well in comparison to one another so it's hard to know what you are going to get. The New Orleans and Green Giant are the bigger rolls while the salmon melt and eel roll are considered "big rolls" but are smaller.

The rolls and nigiri here are excellent. My only complaint is that the rolls didn't seem to be rolled that evenly and my individual pieces were different shapes with different rice thickness in each.

Amazing service and delicious food, we order the Crunch Roll, California Roll and a Seaweed Salad.We are on our way to Reston and our last stop was in Charlottesville (just one night). From reviews and pictures we decided to try Now & Zen and it was the best choice for the day!Great ambience, good location and again, AMAZING sushi!

Best sushi experience in Charlottesville! Can be hard to get in when it's crowded, but the food and service are worth it.

Lovely cozy place. Food is always fantastic. We had the two specials. Tonkatsu and spicy miso ramens. Both were fantastic with nice chunks of bamboo shoots and large pieces of fatty ham. The tonkatsu Ramen had a nice creamy garlic broth and the spicy miso was medium spicy and quite good but not as tasty as the tonkatsu. We had a bottle of hawk in the heavens sake, not a great pairing with the Ramen but the sake was fantastic regardless. Nice and dry. Finished up with toasted black sesame and lychee ice creams.the lychee was sweet with chunks of lychee but the real star was the toasted sesame ice cream. It had a sweet toasted flavor.. hard to describe but almost like vanilla bean but not as cloyingly sweet. Instead it had a nice toasted flavor. Absolutely recommended. Lastly the staff was attentive and friendly as always.

Some of the best sushi I've found in Charlottesville. Fantastic food and fun atmosphere with great service.

For my money, Now & Zen is the best sushi in Cville. I recommend the Aburi Salmon and Chirashi (Hawk in the Heavens sake is also worth a try).

If you're a vegan or vegetarian definitely get the Veg10 roll! The pieces are gigantic, too big to eat in one bite which is a little tricky with sushi, but the flavor and texture is amazing. Also be sure to specify that you want vegan miso soup as their traditional miso contains fish.

We did enjoy the Monkey Roll, especially its creativity with the fried plantain and all the ingredients in there. My husband enjoyed his tonkatsu. The vegan ramen was too bitter. It seemed like there was too much of what's used in the stock to flavor it, unfortunately. Since ramen is such a staple for Japanese cuisine, I gave them a 3 because that was my main dish and I struggled to enjoy it, especially after being so excited to try it. The waiter was very kind and we tipped him nicely. The place is bad with sound, since the space is tight and there isn't much to absorb the sound in there. This was just my experience, though. I don't know about others', so it's worth a try if you're going for something other than the vegan ramen.

The best sushi ever.

This is a great little restaurant! The food is DELICIOUS even when they're super busy and packed out. Everyone is very friendly and hard working. Just know you might have to wait a little while for a table or for take out because they're super busy sometimes.

I'm not a sushi expert but I went with someone who was. After a 20 minute wait we were seated and ordered the dish the waiter recommended. I'm glad we did because the dish was amazing. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food we received. I will definitely return!

Best Sushi in Charlottesville. Toshi is a gifted chef that turns any ingredients into amazing food and it doesn't just extend to sushi. Other dishes and incredible as well plus they have a great selection of beer, sake and cocktails. This is pretty much our favorite restaurant in town.

Great food, seating wasnt the best for a date night conversation. Too close to others. But, the sushi was awesome.

This place was wonderful. We went there on a Saturday night and it was our first time there. We were seated pretty promptly and the restaurant was nice. The service was decent. It took a little bit to get our order in and then our food took a while as well. When it came out though, it was amazing. It's hard to find good vegetarian cuisine and this was top notch. We had some vegetarian sushi rolls, peanut noodles, cauliflower, and dumpling, all were amazing. We will definitely be back.

Excellent little ramen place! Very cozy

Although it is a deceptively small restaurant, that does not detract from how good it is. Their sushi is good but not superb, but the chicken curry is wonderful. And it's surprisingly cheap. Good place; would go again.

Some of the better sushi on Charlottesville. Prices are a little high for me, but that seems to be the case all over town.

Got takeout from here and some of the best sushi I think I have ever had. Can't speak to the quality of the dine-in experience but the quality of food is phenomenal.

Small restaurant with delicious meals. Biggest seaweed salad tried ever, good Tonkotsu ramen and tasty sushi! The rum&red wine&chocolate mousse is really good!

Great food with reasonable prices!

Went to this restaurant last night. They were extremely accommodating as I had my baby with me and his stroller was not the easiest thing to find a place for. The food was delicious and would definitely like to come back. I only wish they were open for lunch but perhaps it's for the best because I would eat lunch here at least twice a week.

Went there for a quick snack, ended up eating more than what my belly could hold. Overall, a happy evening. I'll go there again when I'm craving for some sushi. Don't forget to try the chef's special seared salmon, it's my favorite.
